World Steel Association held 2022 safety production day of steel industry

The world iron and Steel Association held the 2022 World Iron and steel industry safety production day on-line. The theme of this activity was working at heights.

Carlos mart í Nez, director of safety and occupational health of the World Steel Association, pointed out at the event that over the past 10 years, the global injury rate per million working hours in the steel industry has decreased significantly, but the fatal accidents have not been completely eliminated, and the mortality rate per million working hours has increased. Over the past 10 years, work at height has been the leading cause of death and serious industrial injury among employees in the iron and steel industry.

In order to avoid the risks caused by high-altitude operation, the world steel association puts forward the following suggestions: first, the enterprise must enhance the safety awareness of employees. Work at height involves complex work tasks that require continuous supervision and risk assessment. Many accidents occur because the control measures and safety measures that could have avoided accidents are not in place. High altitude operation activities need to be planned in advance by operators with professional knowledge. Operators need to understand both the consequences of falling and the risk control measures to prevent these consequences. The second is to advocate that all stakeholders should be involved and work together to eliminate high-altitude operation accidents. From universities, technical schools and other educational institutions to manufacturers and end users, each stakeholder should actively play its role. The World Steel Association invites stakeholders to consider all aspects to ensure the safety of high-altitude operation.
